Both Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome (along with Chromium) are capable of keeping your bookmarks in sync across multiple platforms and devices. And there are plenty of third-party bookmarking services, too. But if you don't want to store your bookmarks up in the cloud or rely on Firefox's and Chrome's bookmarking capabilities, then you might want to take a look at a clever single-file solution devised by Steve Kemp. This HTML file spiced with a dash of jQuery can be used to maintain bookmarks as a searchable list. All bookmarks in the file are stored as items in a regular HTML list. For each bookmark, you can specify tags, which makes it easier to manage and search the bookmark collection.

Since the entire solution consists of a singleindex.html file, you can simply clone the project's GitHub repository using the git clone https://github.com/skx/bookmarks.public.git command and populate the file with your own bookmarks. To view and search the added bookmarks, open the file in a browser. If you want to sync the file accross multiple devices, you can either use one of many file syncing services and tools, or set up a dedicated Git repository. Obviously, this solution has its limitations. For example, you can't easily import your existing bookmarks into the bookmark file. But if you are looking for a super simple tool for keeping tabs on your bookmark collection, you might want to give this clever little hack a try.
