Apache Loses Market Shares to Microsofts IIS

Oct 17, 2007

Bad news for Apache: according to Netcraft statistics, the free Web Server lost market shares to Microsoft's Internet Information Services (IIS) Web Server in October.

In its survey in October, Netcraft saw Apache's market share drop to 47.73 percent while Microsoft IIS went to 37.13 percent. The gap of ten percent between Apache and IIS is the smallest that Netcraft has ever recorded since IIS was released in 1996. Apache dropped by 2.8 percent compared to September. The Web analysts identified the powerful growth of major blogging systems such as MySpace and Microsoft Live and the fact that 2.5 million domains were lost with Trouble-free.net as the reasons behind the losses.
