Debian Updates Lenny
An update for the new, stabler version of Debian 5.0 has appeared over Easter.
Debian Lenny has been available for download since middle of March, and now developers have followed up with a first update to the free distro. As is often the case with Debian announcements, the project suggests not to throw away the previous CDs and DVDs, but simply update over package manager from the mirrors.
The new software fixes a few known security holes and makes "a few adjustments to serious problems." Thus the debian-installer gets a new kernel and kernel modules. The new kernel supports D-Link DNS-323 (a NAS device) and incorporates two new archive keys. The update also repairs some program crashes and fixes memory leaks and dependencies. Refurbished programs include Samba, GDM and Snort.
Security patches protect such things as the "Battle for Wesnoth" game, repair certificate validation for GnuTLS, and fix arbitrary code execution in Ghostscript, Libsndfile and Glib2.0.
