Retro 10.0 Brings Forth on Many OSs and Browsers

Jan 06, 2009

Retro, the free implementation of a minimalist dialect of Forth, is now available in version 10.0.

Developer Charles Childers has done a complete rewrite of Retro. Its virtual machine now runs under Linux on the x86, x86-64 and Alpha platforms. It was also adapted for Mac OS X 10.5 (on Intel), Windows XP and Vista, the BSD family and BeOS R5 (Intel).

A JavaScript implementation also allows you to try a lean Retro on your browser. Supported browsers are Firefox 2 and 3, IE 6 and 7, Opera, Safari, Chrome and Songbird.

Childers "gifted" the code and documentation unrestricted to the public domain. A tarball for download is available here.
