SEP Sesam 3.6 Does Hyper-V and Command Line

Oct 02, 2009

The SEP firm has released its Sesam backup and recovery software in version 3.6. Among the new features are a command line interface and support for Hyper-V.

SEP Sesam 3.6 can now secure environments that are virtualized with Microsoft's Hyper-V technology, including host operating sysems and their configurations. Sesam supports Volume Shadow Copy for Windows Server 2008 R2 that allows a backup of the operating system and applications while running.

Another important new feature is a CLI whereby administrators can integrate commands into scripts. The new Sesam version also allows files to be copied from one medium to another per mouse click. A search filter for the management application provides a better overview of the larger IT environment. More details are in the release notes.

Developers of SEP Sesam had some fun with the features of version 3.6 to include a localized version in Bavarian.

The server and client components of SEP Sesam run on Linux in 32-bit and 64-bit versions, also on Windows, along with Solaris, AIX and other platforms. The download site includes a free 30-day test version with complete functionality. The price list contains numerous offerings for server and client licenses as well as updates and other services.
