Synaptics Gesture Suite comes to popular Linux distros

Apr 21, 2010

At long last, simple keystrokes and mouse clicks can be replaced with pinching and swiping.

California-based Synaptics announced that their gesture suite would now support a variety of popular Linux distros.

Synaptics, whose TouchPads are integrated into millions of computers worldwide, will offer the suite free to OEM/ODM partners –– when they purchase a TouchPad or ClickPad.

While this announcement offers a trusted solution to gesture controls on a Linux-based laptop (something members of the community have already found workarounds for), being able to integrate those same controls on a Linux-based tablet sounds far more promising. The distros supported are Chrome OS, Fedora, Millos Linpus, Red Flag, Ubuntu, and Xandros

No word yet on whether Synaptics will make the drivers available via an update.
