A decade ago, Debian users used to look down on users of Red Hat and other RPM-based distributions. Whereas Debian users had aptget and dpkg to save them from dependency hell – situations in which software installation is impossible because of an uninstalled library – users of RPM-based distributions had to dig themselves out of dependency hell on their own.
