Debian Women Get Death Threats

Marcel Gagné sent me a link to a recent article in the Register. The article, "Nut launches death threats at Debian women," quotes project leader Steve McIntyre as saying, "It was some kook in the US who made quite a name for himself harassing women for supposedly destroying the free software movement." Call for Contributions: 5th European Symposium on Gender & ICT

The 5th European Symposium on Gender & ICT is calling for contributions, and the deadline for abstract submissions is September 1, 2008. According to the announcement, "On the 5th European Gender and ICT Symposium we will take a closer look at the complex interdependences between gender and ICT. We will explore ways to increase appreciation of diversity in design and use and to strengthen empowerment and participation by means of ICT." Jono Bacon recently announced that the LugRadio Live UK show will be the final show. In his announcement, Jono said, "I am massively proud of what we have managed to achieve. Over 100 shows, 7 full-time presenters and countless guest presenters, 200+ hours of audio, 100+ guests, 2million+ downloads, 1000+ forums members, 40000+ forums posts, 5 live events in two countries, 5000+ emails to the show and an incredible community."
