Now We're Cooking with Open Source

Feb 27, 2008 GMT

My offspring is unhappy with the uninspired menu at our house, but she's also a finicky little vegetarian who doesn't want to cook for herself. In fact, we just discussed this problem over dinner last night (at a local restaurant). Luckily, I ran across Lisa Hoover's update about the Open Source Food site, Feed Your Face At Open Source Food. If we can replace even one frozen pizza at our house with a new recipe, it would be a good start. Food and fabulous photos? Fantastic!
Feeling Dapper

Feb 26, 2008 GMT

If I wrote a Letter to My Body, it would be more of an official apology for spending so much time at the computer this past weekend. I'd close the letter with a promise to run right out to the gym and lift weights in an effort to relieve my regular neck pain. I'm confident, however, that my letter would be sent back to me unread and marked, "Return to Sender." It will be a while before my neck will forgive me for my recent laptop overdose. I spent much more time than I'd planned on both the OLPC research and...

Photo Management with F-Spot

Feb 22, 2008 GMT

One of my mottos is, "I can't be good at everything." Checkbook balancing, paperwork filing, and photo management are three areas that could stand some improvement. I don't plan to apply myself to the checkbook-balancing and paperwork-filing tasks any time soon, but my crazy photo system really bugs me. I'm not writing about photo management just because I've been trying to figure out a way to use a picture of my Boston Terrier, Olive (even though she is the cutest). Actually, I ran across Kristin Shoemaker's "Flipping the Linux switch: Quick and easy photo management with F-Spot." My favorite part of her tutorial is where she says, "You'll notice a few things...
