Android Internet Tablet from Archos
Electronics manufacturer Archos has introduced its new ARM-based multimedia player including Linux platform Android in collaboration with Google. An additional DVR docking station allows the device to morph into a video recorder.
The Archos 5 Internet Tablet comes with WLAN, email, address book, not to mention an FM transmitter and receiver (RDS).The sleek player, including flash memory, is just one centimeter thick, weighs 182 grams, and can be purchased in either 8, 32, or 64 GB. A Micro SD slot can be used additionally to extend memory capability.
Archos also offers two variations with 160 and 500 GB hard drives, respectively. The manufacturer swears by quick programs thanks to the ARM Cortex microprocessor from Texas Instruments. The Archos 5 has a 4..8 inch tall touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 400 pixels. In terms of all things relating to connections, Archos 5 offers WLAN, Bluetooth, and of course a USB slot.
The multimedia player can play a whole slew of video formats such as MPEG4, HD, H.264 HD, WMV, MPEG, MP3, as well as WMA, WAV, and Ogg Vorbis and also boasts software plug-ins for AC3 stereo. Over the Android platform Appslib store, further applications can broaden the device’s horizons of functionality even more. The Archos 5 can even be turned into a GPS with 3-D navigation, via plug-in. The applications can be displayed in either horizontal or vertical orientation, depending on the user’s needs. If the customer is willing to invest a measly 100 dollars for a DVR docking station, the device can grace the viewer’s eyes with high resolution videos in HD quality and is also capable of displaying LCD TV. For Microsoft Office users, an Office View application is also integrated in this versatile little electronic.
The Archos 5 Internet Tablet is available as of today. The 16 GB version has been marked at a recommended price of $300, while the version with 32 GB should cost about $380.
