WOW Effect: First Beta of Moblin 2.0

May 20, 2009

The first beta of the Moblin distro for netbooks and mobile Internet devices shows what's possible in an innovative interface.

Moblin 2.0 first beta goes beyond the usual software updates and fine-tuning by providing a completely new user interface. The m_zone you see when first opening Moblin is like the one HP used for the Linux version of its Mie mini-netbook designed to provide quick access to multimedia data and Internet content. The OpenGL-based Clutter library handles the underlying effects.

The new Moblin 2.0 UX (User Experience) interface is based on the Clutter graphics library.

Next to the obvious changes to the user interface, the Moblin developers extensively reworked the Connection Manager and built in APIs for numerous social networking services.

Moblin 2.0 first beta can be test-driven from a live image download for USB drive or Live CD.
