Beauté et Magique
Beauté et Magique
With this month’s Linux Magazine DVD, you can test Mageia 1, the first release of a Mandriva fork begun in 2010. With a choice of desktops, such as KDE SC 4.6.3, Gnome 2.32, Xfce 4.8.1, and LXDE, you can tailor Mageia’s look and functionality to suit your needs.
Mageia provides the alternative software repositories non-free (for proprietary software; e.g., vendors’ graphics drivers) and tainted (i.e., for restricted software like libdvdcss) to make the installation of additional software a breeze. Access to the tainted repository is possible after activation in the package manager. Please note that the Mageia DVD version has no Live boot. Before installation, make sure you have backed up your system safely. Installation is handled by the long-standing Drakx installer. Mageia’s partitioning tool, DiskDrake, gives you a coherent view of your hard disk’s data allocation.
