Creating photo and video presentations with ffDiaporama
Export
ffDiaporama saves the project data in a proprietary format. To be able to use your presentations outside of the software, you need to convert them to a standard format. Do this by clicking on the Render video tab. The button bar changes showing you different conversion routines that reflect the existing codecs. The Player and smartphone, Multimedia system, For the web, Lossless, Advanced, and Export soundtrack options each open dialogs with presets for the particular purpose, which you can customize to your own liking.
However, the Advanced and Multimedia system options in the dialogs are somewhat confusing. Whereas the Multimedia system dialog is suitable for playing the project on a modern flatscreen with a 16:9 aspect ratio in full HD resolution, the Advanced option configures the standard settings for playback on older TVs in 4:3 format with PAL resolution. You can optionally change the resolution, aspect, and file format in the two dialogs. After clicking OK, the program generates the new slideshow. Depending on the compute power of your hardware and the scope of data conversion, this process can take some time.
Conclusions
ffDiaporama impresses with its ease of use and offers many features that enable you to create a professional-looking presentation. The software scores points with a high work rate and excellent stability. The only drawback of the program is – as is the case with all multimedia applications – its dependence on many additional packages with codecs. That said, however, the popular Linux distributions usually include these, or you can download them from the repositories.
