Bazaar 2.0.0 Based on New Repository Format

Sep 28, 2009

The Bazaar version control system largely developed by the Ubuntu company Canonical is available in version 2.0.0 and has a new repository format.

The release with the code-name "Instant Karma" has made 2a (formerly "brisbane-core") the default format. The software now puts new branches and repositories into the new format that, according to developers, is "substantially smaller and faster for many operations."

Otherwise the release fixes a number of bugs and stabilizes the software. The release is intended for long-term support of at least six months, with subsequent 2.0.x releases delivering further bug fixes only.

Bazaar is under GPLv2 and source code is ready for download from the project page. Ubuntu binary packages are already available. The package name, like the command, is

bzr
