Nessus 3.2 with IPv6 Auditing and WMI
Tenable Network Security has just released version 3.2 of its Nessus vulnerability scanner.
The new features according to the vendor are IPv6 auditing and improved bandwidth utilization control during scanning. On top of this Nessus 3.2 is capable of restricting user permissions for specific ports and audits.
Support for the Windows Management Instrumentation protocol (WMI) is also new. This interface gives remote applications like the scanner the ability to retrieve information on the performance and configuration of Windows systems, and to change settings.
Since the 3.x branch was introduced, Nessus has been under a proprietary license; the 2.x versions remain GPLd. The current Nessus version 3.2 is available for Linux, BSD, Solaris and Windows as a free download, however, users are asked to agree to an extensive license agreement. Scanner plugins are available to customers who subscribe to "Direct Feed" at a price of around US$ 1200 per year.
