SWsoft becomes Parallels
Virtualization specialist SWsoft is changing its name. As of 2008 the company will be using the name of its subsidiary Parallels as its new corporate identity.
Besides the name change, SWsoft is also realigning its strategy. Parallels previously played the desktop and workstation virtualization market, with SWsoft catering to the demand for virtual servers and automation solutions with products such as Virtuozzo and the free derivative OpenVZ. SWsoft is now looking to consolidate its activities under the Parallels umbrella. Parallels offers a multi-platform virtualization and automation portfolio to consumers, corporate users and service providers alike. Marketing strategists at SWsoft coined the phrase of Optimized Computing to describe the paradigm shift.
SWsoft’s roadmap for 2008 is populated with product updates with Virtuozzo 4.0 due for release early in the year, and Parallels desktop and workstation to follow later on. This single-stop shopping strategy also plays to the company’s new management software for various virtualization technologies. The solution will be able to control Virtuozzo and Parallels initially, with third party products to follow.
Besides new business cards and a new letterhead, SWsoft will be introducing a new logo and some new product names: SWsoft PEM and HSPcomplete will then be known as Parallels System Automation and Parallels Business Automation. The vendor will also be merging its separate parallels.com and swsoft.com websites under the parallels.com domain.
