The new year is upon us, and it is far too cold to sit out in the garden with a laptop, but Wireless LAN adapters are not only designed for outdoor use; they can provide really useful services in your apartment, at work, at the airport, and in many other public WLAN hotspots. WLAN USB sticks, which are no bigger than normal USB memory sticks and will fit nicely in your pocket or purse, have been around for a while now. There are a few pitfalls to watch out for when buying a USB WLAN stick. In fact, Linux supports very few of the new 54 Mbit sticks, and even older models can cause you headaches.
