New Browser for mobile Linux devices

French software vendors, Pleyo have announced a web browser based on Apple's Webkit. The "Origyn Web Browser" (OWB) is mainly designed for use on mobile devices that run on Linux.

OWB draws its codebase from Apple's Webkit, which in turn is based on the KHTML source code. Pleyo has designed OWB's architecture to facilitate porting the browser to various consumer devices, such as media players, set-top boxes, or cellphones. Thus far, OWB has been ported to the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet. Pleyo has also published the OwBal PortingGuide to describe how to port the browser; the guide has a number of additional tips and tricks on working with embedded devices. The Origyn Web Browser is modular, meaning that developers only need to port the components they really need for the target device.

The Web browser is still being tested and improved. Pleyo aims to release two versions of OWB per year. Users can download the source code on Sand-Labs.org. The browser is released under a dual license of BSD and L-GPL.
