As someone who writes about Linux and open source software for a living, I have tools and tricks that are essential for my daily computing. In this installment of the Workspace feature, I share my personal favorites with you.
Anyone whose daily work revolves around using a computer assembles a number of applications they turn to regularly. The software featured in this article includes applications key to my workflow, including collecting and organizing ideas, bookmarks, and snippets; editing text; managing and backing up files; and much more.

Shaarli is a relatively recent addition to my toolbox, but it’s quickly becoming the go-to application for storing and sharing bookmarks. I’ve been using the Delicious bookmark service from time immemorial, but after Yahoo! acquired the service, I decided to move on. I tried several solutions with varying degrees of success: from Firefox’s bookmarking functionality to a simple database solution based on the First Things First application. I used them, but I didn’t love them.
