CeBIT 2009: BITKOM Set on Green IT
The Green IT theme has its definite place at CeBIT 2009, with a true defender. The BITKOM German industry association is launching the Green IT World forum on Tuesday, March 3, in Hannover.
In a survey they conducted of 1,000 people over the age of 14, the German association for information technology, telecommunications, and new media – known as BITKOM – found that more money is being spent in the association's market sector: 94% of those surveyed indicated that energy efficiency was critical to their product selection.
The Green IT theme has grown markedly from last year's CeBIT, morphing from "village" in 2008 to "world" in 2009. This world includes some diverse IT products from makers such as Alcatel, Deutsche Telekom, IBM Hitachi, Nokia-Siemens, Strato and Sun Microsystems. German minister of the environment Sigmar Gabriel is to be present at the Federal Ministry's and BITKOM's annual "Sustainability in the Digital World" conference as part of Green IT World at CeBIT March 5.
