Distribution for Software Testers: Bugnux 2007
Bugnux includes PCLinuxOS and various test tools. The newcomer on the distribution market will run from a live CD or install on disk.
The operating system and test tools on the live CD make any computer a test computer. The collection of test software includes Jacareto (v0.7.12) and Marathon (v1.0), both of which use Java to automate GUI testing. The X11::Guitest (v0.21) Perl package emulates users, and is also used for GUI testing. Funkload (v1.62), which is written in Python, gives developers the ability to test the functionality and performance of Web projects. Selenium (v0.8.2) uses Javascript and Iframes to do the same job. The Curl-loader (v0.4.2) C tool stress tests HTTP and FTP applications by generating five-digit random numbers. There are also a couple of Firefox test add-ons.
Bugs: An annoyance to developers, but Bugnux demonstrates its sense of humor.
The project homepage has full details on the included software. The download area has ISO images of Bugnux 2007.
