Firefox Surpasses 2 Billion Add-on Downloads
Number of Add-on downloads double in less than three years.
The Mozilla Project announced that Firefox served the 2 billionth add-on download since the project's creation in 2005. Firefox reached 1 billion downloads in November 2008, but took less than two years to double that number to the current benchmark.
“With more than 150 million add-ons in use every day, we know that the next billion add-on downloads will be here before we know it,” Add-ons Senior Marketing Manager Julie Choi said via the Mozilla Add-on blog.
In honor of this achievement, Mozilla asked for the community's favorite add-ons and created a collection called “The Best 2 Billion Firefox Add-ons.” The collection features some of the most recognizable and popular add-ons in the browser's history and were instrumental in the rising browser popularity.
