Microsoft Word Ban Renewed from Jan 11, 2010
The US-wide sales ban of Microsoft Word spoken by a Texan court in August has been upheld.
Microsoft lost its appeal against the decision and have now until Jan 11 to change the software or stop all sales. The Richmond giant has also been ordered to pay $290 million in damages. The patent infringement concerns an XML solution from the Canadian company i4i. OpenOffice remains unaffected by the decision. Details of the court announcement can be found here.
Microsoft has now promised to change this particular Word version as soon as possible and assures that Microsoft Office 2010 is ''clean''. Further legal action is possible and an out of court settlement has not been ruled out.
