New Qt Version 4.3.4 under GPLv3
Trolltech is releasing version 4.3.4 of its GUI library under the version 3 of the GPL. Apart from this the makers of Qt have simply fixed bugs in the release.
The Norwegian software company removed various bugs in its class library that had led to crashes. For example, certain fonts had caused the X Window system to crash, and directories in the QFile dialog went on strike if they were simultaneously hidden and the current working directory. The QSsl socket was affected by a certificate validation vulnerability. More details are available in the Release Notes.
The class library is available for downloading by Open Source developers under the GPLv3. The move from GPLv2 to GPLv3 is in line with the announcement made by the Trolltech CEO at the KDE Release Event mid-January. The download page has not been updated in this respect and still refers to GPL Version 2. On top of this, the library is not free for commercial implementations (dual licensing). Nokia took over the reins at Trolltech in January (as Linux Magazine reported).
