Novell Nixes BrainShare
Novell announced that BrainShare 2009 has been canceled. BrainShare has been held for more than 20 years, and the 2009 event was scheduled for March 8 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
John Dragoon, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, posted the announcement on the Novell site today. He explained that the current economic crisis and travel expenses led to the decision.
"Over the coming months, we will continue to focus on building the high-quality training and enablement offerings you have come to expect from us," Dragoon said. "We will do this through online classes, virtual conferences and local tours."
The company posted an FAQ online, which says that registrations will be refunded.

GWAVACon emerges as alternative to BrainShare
Even though registration was down for BrainShare, GWAVACon is seeing a surge of interest, both in the US, Germany, and the UK.
BrainShare going away is going to be a very good thing for Novell. They are making tough choices and they are good business ones.
