OpenBSD 4.6 Expands Hardware Support

Oct 19, 2009

The free UNIX derivative OpenBSD is now available in version 4.6. Among other enhancements, developers extended the list of supported hardware.

The list of newly supported devices includes Motorola's MVME141 and MVME165 single board computers (part of the mvme68k platform). The new OpenBSD release also runs on the SGI Octane, Origin 200 and Fuel families of systems. The Sparc and Sparc64 platform ports received some additional improvements.

The software features added include a new SMTP daemon with privilege separation and the Tmux terminal multiplexer to allow multiple programs to run in a terminal. The OpenSSH secure shell also developed by the OpenBSD project is in version 5.3.

Further details are in the release notes and changelog. The images for download of installation media are on numerous mirrors. To support the project financially, order the official set of CDs and enjoy the artwork and release song.
