Pardus: The Anatolian Leopard
Onur Küçük announced the release of Pardus 2009, the latest version of the Linux distro used widely in Turkey which takes its name from Panthera pardus, an endangered species of Anatolian leopard.
Pardus is very big on user-friendliness, hoping to attract many users in Turkey and other countries with the distro available in eleven languages. Version 2009 comes with a KDE 4.2.4 desktop and a 2.6.30 generation kernel.
According to the release announcement, big changes have been made to the artwork with splashscreens, backgrounds, icons revamped and even the bootloader has been overhauled. Numerous packages have been checked and re-worked to the latest standards. On board are OpenOffice 3.1.0.6, Firefox 3.5, Gimp 2.6.6 and X.org 1.6.2.
Last but not least, manager tools have been brought up to date and overall performance improved. The new version of the KDE 4 desktop is comfortable to work with and thanks to the new kern, Pardus also supports more hardware. Pardus Linux 2009 can be downloaded from the project FTP server.
