French Connection

Question: Dear Klaus, I have two remarks on Knoppix 7.0.4. First, Tomboy Notes doesn't start, although there is DVD-ROM activity for a few seconds as if some libraries were missing. Second, when I use the cheatcode lang=fr, the icons for maximizing, minimizing, or closing the window disappear in some applications. Any idea about the reason for this?

Answer: I traced the Tomboy Notes application in Knoppix 7.0.4, and you are right, it doesn't start. The reason is a bug in the Mono installation, which is a dependency for tomboy. Mono is an open source implementation of .NET, and it's being used as a development framework to create platform-independent applications. Apparently, a component is missing that is essential to Tomboy (and possibly other mono-based programs). A solution to this specific case was upgrading the tomboy package,
