Synchronizing data with the Git-annex Assistant
Conclusions
The Git-annex Assistant web interface successfully complements the underlying software. Basic tasks are completed with a few mouse clicks. Local pairing provides an easy way to synchronize data for systems with mutual SSH access. Remote sharing with a detour via a messaging service is a little more complicated at the moment, but a daemon to simplify the process will soon provide a remedy.
To realize the full potential of Git-annex, however, you still need to resort to the command line. On the project's website, some screencasts describe in detail the use of the software.
The developer explicitly points out what Git-annex does not offer [7]: It does not provide an implicit backup. Although the program can be integrated into a data backup strategy, simpler tools exist for that task.
