With BackBox, you get a solid operating system. On the one hand, it is suitable as a specialized Linux derivative for security audits and anonymous Internet surfing with Tor. On the other hand, it can also be used as a general Linux desktop. The system is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and therefore comes with the complete Ubuntu software inventory. Additionally, the developers provide their own repository, which is primarily used to keep BackBox's integrated safety-relevant tools up to date.
Because of its slim Xfce desktop and low system requirements, the Italian Ubuntu derivative explicitly addresses users of older hardware who work with limited resources. Therefore, the distribution should be of interest to all users who are looking for an everyday system that also takes many security aspects into account.
