AI Hunts for Linux Bugs
Artificial intelligence (AI) is here to stay. As it continues to burrow deeper into all aspects of daily and work life, Linux kernel development is no exception. Love it or hate it, predict doom or utopia, we've witnessed the birth of an immortal being that will only continue to grow and intertwine with us, either forever or until the end.
Roman Gushchin of Google recently produced an open source AI-based bug hunter called Sashiko (named for a type of Japanese embroidery that strengthens work clothes where they get the most wear) – a nice name for a tool designed to find bugs in the Linux kernel so they can be patched up. Roman said, "It's licensed under the Apache-2.0 License, and the ownership of the project was transferred to the Linux Foundation." He added that a running version could be found at https://sashiko.dev.
