Doghouse – How Much Money
The savings in license fees alone from governments (and businesses) switching to open source could mean considerable funds for their own economies.
Last month, I pointed out that non-USA countries were sending a lot of their money outside of their borders to the USA for software and hardware that they could have, instead, produced inside of their own country, providing jobs for their own people. Many of these countries are now turning to open source, not only for the issues of sovereignty and security, but to redirect the money to create jobs for the taxpayers that supplied the money in the first place.
I believe that a lot of people really do not understand how much money this is.
Recently, I obtained a copy of a report generated by the Brazilian government entitled "PACID – Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento da Infraestrutura Digital", or (in English) "Digital Infrastructure Growth Acceleration Program"
