Despite its current bad rap, AI does have its uses. We'll show you how to best use some practical AI features in popular KDE apps.
Not to dive too deep into the AI debate, I would argue that it is not really AI at all that should be shunned. It is more like the market manipulation of hardware prices, the draining and pollution of waterways, the excessive carbon footprint for very little gain, the abuse of users and the invasion of their privacy, the degradation of online content, and, related to the former, the ripping off of creators and violating their rights, even going to the extreme of suing humans for copyright infringement when what happened is the other way around [1].
That is, it is the greedy corporate tech bros doing what greedy corporate tech bros do and using the latest fad to carry our their evil, manipulative, and shortsighted deeds.
Because AI in itself is fine. It has been around since the 1950s and none of the above happened because of it in all this time. Indeed, it has helped us preserve and better share human knowledge, turning documents on decaying paper and parchment into digital format and parsing them with Optical Character Recognition (OCR); it has helped calculate the physical integrity of civil engineering structures, such as dams and bridges; and it has helped advance medicine and health sciences in general. AI was used by Richard Matthew Stallman (RMS) himself and his buddies at MIT and has multiple applications in software development, scientific research, accessibility, and medical diagnosis.
