Dress up LibreOffice with Faenza-like Icons

While each new release of LibreOffice brings new features and improvements, the productivity suite still sports the same old icon themes. Fortunately, you can freshen up LibreOffice's appearance by replacing the default icon theme like the Faenza Mod.

As the name suggests, this icon theme is derived from the stylish monochrome Faenza icon set. Installing the Faenza Mod icon theme on Ubuntu requires a few simple commands. First install the Oxygen icon theme (you can skip this step if you are using Kubuntu):

sudo apt-get install libreoffice-style-oxygen

Grab the latest version of the Faenza Mod package, and rename the downloaded archive to images_oxygen.zip:

mv ~/libreoffice_faenzaMOD.zip ~/images_oxygen.zip

Rename the installed Oxygen icon to images_oxygen.orig.zip, so you have a backup in case something goes wrong:

sudo mv /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_oxygen.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_oxygen.orig.zip

Finally, move the renamed images_oxygen.zip to the /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/ directory:

sudo mv ~/images_oxygen.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_oxygen.zip

Launch LibreOffice, choose Tools | Options,switch to the LibreOffice | View section, select the Oxygen icon theme, and press OK. Behold then the refreshed LibreOffice interface.
