LinuxTag 2011 Opens
At this week's Berlin LinuxTag 2011, event cooridinator Nils Magnus discusses the increasing professionalism of the open source community.
Not only has Linux arrived on the desktop, Nils Magnus points to the Linux on devices such as televisions and other consumer devices. Linux is now taken for granted, Magnus says, and the community has matured by providing fixed release cycles, marketing campaigns and media relations.
Messe Berlin's Jens Heithecker says that 179 presentations, 27 workshops, more than 80 free projects and 40 commercial exhibitors at the 17th LinuxTag make it the most comprehensive conference program in Europe.
The 10th annual LinuxTag hacking contest will be held on Friday, and Saturday is an education-focused Academy Day.
