Milter Manager 1.0.0 Combines Anti-Spam Filters
Milter Manager, a program for mail filter interfaces to mail servers, is now in its first stable version 1.0.0. It allows combining multiple mail filters.
The open source software, short for MailfILTER Manager, uses the plug-in system developed for Sendmail for mail transfer agents (MTAs), also used in Postfix 2.3 and later. The program functions as a Milter plug-in, but provides interfaces for further plug-ins that it can call if rules allow.
Milter Manager thus allows various anti-spam techniques to be combined, such as selective SMTP rejection (S25R) and greylisting (acceptance of retransmitted mail only). Documentation on the project website has more details.
The product is developed by ClearCode, a firm supported by the Japanese Information-Technology Promotion Agency (IPA). Software is under GPLv3 licensing and the libraries are under LGPLv3.
Version 1.0.0 is the first stable release and documents the Milter Manager commands as manpages. Installation guidelines and binary packages are available for Ubuntu and CentOS 5.3 (32-bit and 64-bit). FreeBSD 7.1 installation is also available. Optional installations include unit tests, graphs with RRDtool and a web interface for admins.
