Mozilla Lets Fly Next Thunderbird Beta

Sep 24, 2009

The Thunderbird mail client has reached its next stage with a beta on the way to 3.0.

Thunderbird developers mention over 200 changes in the release, among them an update of the Gecko engine to 1.9.1.3. Additional changes were made to the usual stability and performance characteristics, such as IMAP folder synchronization, where messages are downloaded in the background by default, which can be disabled or enabled for individual folders.

Users with a propensity for testing can download the Thunderbird 3.0 beta for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. Release date of the final version is still unknown, but could be delayed by a year from the original plan based on the beta phase.
