New Qt IDE Arrives for Developers

Oct 31, 2008

A new integrated development environment (IDE) originally announced at the Qt Developer Days in Munich is now available for testing and curiosity seekers.

The IDE requires a Qt 4.x development version to be installed. Nokia changed the product name from codename Greenhouse to Qt Creator and issued a preview that is more like an alpha, as this magazine has suggested. The environment is adequately stabile, but its capabilities don't yet quite match up with a beta.

The Qt Software download site for Qt Creator includes an introductory video, binaries for 32-bit and 64-bit Linux, and a graphical installation
process. The company demonstrated the first version these past two days at the Qt Developer Days 2008 in Redwood City, California.
