The Bullet-Proof KDE Software Initiative Is Coming
KDE, Techpaladin, and Kubuntu Focus have announced a new initiative that will provide at least three years of support for KDE Plasma 6.6 LTS and related software.
Over the next three years, Kubuntu Focus will give $100,000 to Techpaladin, KDE e.V (the foundation behind KDE), and developers to fund the continuous improvements for KDE 6.6 LTS, KDE Frameworks libraries, and the associated KDE Gear apps. During that same period, Kubuntu Focus will also sponsor three additional nodes for continuous integration (CI) testing for KDE e.V. on Kubuntu 26.04 LTS.
“The ‘bullet-proof KDE Software Suite’ is currently distributed with Kubuntu 26.04 LTS,” says the EIN Presswire. “However, the open source initiative is designed as a collaborative effort, and other vendors are encouraged to sponsor, distribute, and contribute to this project to further strengthen the ecosystem. Kubuntu Focus already ships all of its systems with the “bullet-proof software suite” as part of Kubuntu 26.04 LTS. Combining that with support for its hardware integration and support, users of Kubuntu hardware enjoy (according to Michael Mikowski, Technical Product Manager of Kubuntu Focus) "convenience, performance, and reliability that rival proprietary systems."
Currently, the KDE "bullet-proof" stack is only distributed via the Kubuntu 26.04 LTS release.
