In his keynote at the LinuxTag 2009 in Berlin, KDE founder Matthias Ettrich spoke about the future of user interfaces on mobile devices. In the process he presented QML, the newest development from his employer Qt Software.

LinuxTag once again features the best and brightest among open source. More than 10,000 visitors are expected at the Berlin conference starting June 24 and running through June 27. Many free projects are exhibiting. Prizes and a press conference started things off.

Just in time for LinuxTag 2009 Berlin, California firm Talend promises real-time data integration software.

Mandriva Linux 2010 is set to appear on the scene with an alpha version in October. First attempts with the free version (in 32- and 64-bit) have been approved. In the meantime the French company has let its community down by cancelling the LinuxTag visit last minute.

The Fedora User and Development Conference (FUDCon) 2009 will run concurrently with LinuxTag at the Marshall Haus on the grounds of the Messe Berlin from Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28.

The groupware project Tine 2.0 will appear at the Berlin LinuxTag 2009 with a beta version of its 2009-06 release, code-named Leonie, that includes mail and calendar components.

The Mozilla project has put out calls for its Extend Firefox 3.5 contest. You have until October 2 to enhance the Firefox 3.5 Web experience and possibly win a MacBook and some software licenses.

The first joint conference with KDE and Gnome is set to kick off on July 3rd on the island vacation destination Grand Canary. Richard Stallman is expected to attend for the opening of Guadec and Akademy.
