While the European Linux scene has been busy with KDE and Qt, a relatively unnoticed but important gathering occurred in the U.S. to determine the future of the GNOME desktop: the GNOME Boston Summit 2009.

The first openSUSE 11.2 release candidate is ready for download. RC2 is planned for the end of October with a final version expected November 12.

Genuine Amarok fans are still reminiscing about the good old version 1.4, code-named Fast Forward. The new Amarok 2.2.1 should bring back memories.

At the Maemo Summit in Amsterdam Nokia gave away 300 N900 Internet tablets to KDE and Qt developers. The result is the first porting of KDE programs to Maemo 5.

The document-oriented database Apache Couch DB is available in version 0.10.0. The release is currently in a beta state.

The Bash shell has long supported extending command completion through scripts. The Bash-Completion package delivers full scripts for Linux commands and is currently available in version 1.1.

With a revenue of $9.4 billion and net income of $1.9 billion in the third quarter of 2009, Intel's results fell below those from a year ago, but rose from the $8 billion in revenues from Q2.

As OpenMoko CEO Sean Moss-Pultz was announcing his departure from the mobile phone project, he mentioned as an aside that we was indeed working on yet another project. His Plan B has now been completed.
