OpenInkpot 0.2 Linux E-Book with New Face
The developers of OpenInkpot, a Linux distro for e-book readers with E Ink display, broadened the hardware support and enhanced the GUI and applications in version 0.2.
The new OpenInkpot release adds the Hanvon N510 and N516 (also known as Azbooka) to its list of supported hardware. The N516 also plays MP3 audio data.
The GUI based on the EFL toolkit got a completely new design. Added were functions such as favorites and recent files. The file manager and application interfaces are localized into a choice 14 languages. Also new are screen rotations in 90 degree intervals and the ability to lock the keys into sleep mode, which uses hardly any more power than shutting down or hibernating the device.
Added to the formats of the FBReader and CoolReader e-book reader programs were PDF and Djvu. Games include puzzles and sudoku-like programs. OpenInkpot also provides numerous fonts and users can post-install additional fonts to use them in the program. Like book and graphic files, they can be added to the reader per SD card or SSH/SFTP. OpenInkpot 0.2 is available for download as binaries for Hanlin and Hanvon devices, with a Live evaluation version also on SD card. Warning: restoring original firmware after a Hanvon N510/N516 installation isn't possible, although it is possible for Hanlin v3 and v3ext installations after a backup (see the installation guide).
