SystemRescueCd 1.4.0 Boots Off Net
The SystemRescueCd, a Live CD for troubleshooting computers, comes with new boot methods in version 1.4.0.
The Live Linux can now alternatively download the root filesystem from an NFS server or network block device (NBD) instead of over HTTP/TFTP. This would be helpful for computers having less than 512 MBytes RAM in that the entire filesystem needn't go into working memory. With the help of Grub 2 the ISO image of the Live system can also boot from a local drive.
The kernels for SystemRescueCd were also updated to versions 2.5.32.9 and 2.6.27.45. Also new is access to ZFS with help from ZFS-FUSE 0.6.0. The Parted system tool got an update to version 2.1 and thereby supports devices with block sizes less than 512 bytes.
SystemRescueCd 1.4.0 for x86 systems is ready for download as an ISO image and can boot from USB media.
