For most of us, interacting with a computer desktop is so natural that it hardly occurs to us that our actions are tailored to the design of our tools. With different tools, our desktop experience is much different – and some users would say, much better. Tiling window managers are an old technology that offers a very different experience, and recently they've received a flurry of new attention. An article earlier in this issue described some leading tiling window managers that are receiving attention from Linux users.
