Even though Linux users are typically quite savvy in technical matters, many of us don't like to waste brain cycles on needless complexity that leads to loss of control. Some of today's note-taking apps keep your data in the cloud, where it is subject to you know not what: data mining? AI training? Luckily, you can keep your notes local with QOwnNotes. And should you decide to customize, you can even write your own scripts. And while we're on the subject of simple, some users prefer a text file and trusty markup language to the bloat of a word processing app. This month, we look inside Typst, a modern-day replacement for the classic LaTeX document prep tool.
