Getting started with the Arduino IDE
Alternative Tools
An IDE has always seemed to me to be a hybrid application, half word processor and half virtual terminal. Arduino’s is designed to please users of all levels. However, veteran purists might prefer the Arduino CLI for writing code, while the less experienced might prefer a graphical tool such as Keyboardio’s Chrysalis. However, the Arduino IDE produces similar results to the CLI with less effort and may offer more options than an equivalent graphical tool. Moreover, for those interested in learning to code, it seems an unthreatening, well-supported first step along that path.
