Moblin + Maemo = Meego
The open source project Meego will see Intel's Moblin and Nokia's Maemo merge into one mobile platform.
Meego will run on notebooks, tablets, smartphones, network compatible TVs and in-vehicle infotainment, all hardware of limited size and resources and trimmed to internet and communication.
Meego will get Nokia's GUI toolkit QT for user development and performance optimization from Intel's Moblin. Whereby the system footprint should be small, the software choice large.
The partners are placing leadership of the project in the hands of the Linux Foundation, who also hold marketing rights to Meego. The software components fall under licenses approved by the Open Source Initiative. Meego inherits the Linux kernel's GPLv2 for the operating system, with the project partners wishing to avoid the GPLv3. For everything concerning the user directly, industry-friendly BSD licenses are planned.
