Spotify Comes to Linux

Jul 13, 2010

Streaming music service comes to penguin users. Sorta.

Spotify, the music streaming and sharing service released a preview build for Linux users allowing you access to the playlist creation, streaming, social networking, and sharing features that define Spotfiy. Unfortunately, local music play isn't supported in the preview build.

Another issue with the preview build is its availability. Because the company hasn't yet found a way to display ads, Spotify for Linux is av ailable to Spotify Premium subscribers only. The official Spotify blog also mentions that the preview release is unsupported, but because so many staff members use it, they hope to keep it up to pace with the Mac and Linux versions.

Currently the first release is in a Debian Squeeze/Ubuntu 10.4 package, at the preview page.
