Following the success of the Desktop Summit in 2009 and separate events in 2010, Akademy and Guadec will again meet in a combined event in 2011. Organizers are now looking for a venue.

The call for papers has begun for the annual developers conference, Akademy.

It's become tradition that KDE fans and developers meet twice a year to hold a sizable conference. This year's Camp KDE in San Diego begins in 10 days.

At the last KDE developer's Akademy conference, the Plasma team had assembled some ideas for KDE 4 on netbooks. These ideas will now become reality.

In July this year, the KDE community conference (Akademy) and the Gnome Users and Developers' Conference (GUADEC) will for the first time be co-located on the Spanish Canary Islands. Registration for the event has already opened and KDE is calling for presentation submissions.

Nokia issued its first release candidate for Qt 4.5 that includes, among other things, translucent widgets.

Dates for lectures at the first Akademy extension, “Camp KDE”, (Jan 17 to 23, 2009) in Jamaica have been set. Dates for the first KDE-Gnome conference in Gran Canaria have also been agreed, (July 3 to 11, 2009) along with a location.

For many people, the summer is an ideal time to go on vacation. Summer of 2008 was also a productive time for Amarok developers.
