QuickDic: Offline Multi-Lingual Dictionary for Android
Productivity Sauce
Whether you learn a foreign language or travel to another country, a good dictionary is a must-have. And if you already have an Android device in your pocket, you can replace a thick paper dictionary with a more practical solution like the QuickDic app. What makes QuickDic particularly suitable for travel and study is the fact that it works offline. When you launch the app for the first time, you need to grab dictionary files for a specific language pair. Once you've done that, you can use QuickDic without an Internet connection. The app can handle multiple dictionaries, which can be useful when you are working with several foreign languages.
QuickDic features a simple and functional interface which lets you look up words with a minimum of fuss. Start typing a word in the search field, and the app automatically displays all matches. Using the button next to the search field, you can quickly switch the translation direction, while the built-in dictionary manager makes it easy to switch between dictionaries and grab additional dictionary files.
The app uses lexical databases from the Wiktionary project, and the list of dictionaries includes a wide range of languages. But if you have your own lexical database, you can find a description of how to convert it to a QuickDic-compatible file on the project's website.
